Healthy Kids, Healthy Community

Team HKHC works to improve the physical, mental and emotional health of Wake County residents, particularly young people, through opportunities, education and support that empower them to achieve their full potential.

BackPack Buddies
BackPack Buddies provides food-insecure children with weekend meals during the school year. Team members help collect and coordinate food delivered by the InterFaith Food Shuttle and donated by individuals and businesses, as well as pack and deliver bags to participating schools. BackPack Buddies has been working with 5 elementary schools (Lacy, Hunter, Root, Beaverdam and Conn) and AventWest Children’s Mentoring. Some years, we partner with YMCA of the Triangle’s Camp High Hopes for the upcoming summer to provide weekly bags for campers during their eight-week summer camp.

Chorus
Chorus members perform at nursing homes, adult day care centers, assisted-living facilities, retirement communities, JLR events and other clubs and ministries throughout Wake County. The Chorus spreads joy and happiness through its love of music.

Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC
We partner with the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina to further its mission that no one goes hungry. Volunteers make a tangible contribution through packing and sorting canned goods, nonperishables and fresh produce for distribution to agencies in 34 counties. North Carolina is among the top 10 states in levels of food insecurity.

Helping Horse
Helping Horse is a therapeutic riding program that accepts riders with a wide range of needs, including autism, Down Syndrome, cerebral palsy, sensory impairments and learning disabilities. It’s tremendously rewarding work. Members serve as leaders and side-walkers at riding lessons in addition to planning the spring rider event
