Junior League of Raleigh Hosts 4th Annual Touch-A-Truck® Event

Presented by Johnson Lexus

Fundraiser will benefit BackPack Buddies to nourish children in need

Raleigh | March 11, 2019: Honk, vroom, beep! The Junior League of Raleigh is heading full throttle into its annual Touch-A-Truck® fundraiser this May to benefit its BackPack Buddies program and continue its commitment to feed children in need. The perfect scene for kids of all interests and ages, the lively event will be revving with fun, showcasing construction equipment, city vehicles, emergency trucks and mobile machinery to see, touch and explore. Wake County’s finest including first responders, truck operators and community helpers will also be on hand to answer questions and engage with event-goers.

“Touch-A-Truck gives children the unique opportunity to sit behind the wheels of the interesting trucks, vehicles and machines they see working in our communities every day,” said Samantha Hatem, Junior League of Raleigh President. “Not only that, families can speak with vehicle operators, like police officers, firefighters and city bus drivers, to learn more about their roles and gain a better understanding of the importance of service work in our society.”

Proudly presented by Johnson Lexus, the 2019 Touch-A-Truck fundraising event will be held on Saturday, May 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Spring Hill Lot near Dorothea Dix Park at 701 Barbour Drive in downtown Raleigh. For those who may be sensitive to lights and loud noises, a quiet, low-sensory hour with no lights, sirens or horns will start the event and last until 10 a.m. The Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures® mobile dental van will also be on-site throughout the event to host free youth dental exams offered by Falls Family Dental.

Discounted $6 tickets and family packages are now on sale at jlraleigh.org/fundraising/touch-a-truck. Tickets will also be available at the event for $7 each; admission is free for children under 1.

Proceeds from Touch-A-Truck will benefit the Junior League of Raleigh’s BackPack Buddies program, which feeds children from food-insecure families in Wake County. Each year, BackPack Buddies provides food to more than 500 students throughout the school year at area public schools and into the summer through our partnership with the YMCA of the Triangle’s Camp High Hopes eight-week program. Children receive a package containing six balanced meals and two healthy snacks, including fresh fruits, to take home at the end of every week.

Other event sponsors include Nationwide Insurance, North State Bank, Wells Fargo, Coldwell Banker Howard Perry and Walston and MIX 101.5. To learn more about Touch-A-Truck or to become an event sponsor visit: jlraleigh.org/fundraising/touch-a-truck.
