SPREE! Young Entrepreneur Program
The JLR SPREE! Young Entrepreneur Program is designed to fulfill the mission of the JLR to promote voluntarism, develop the potential of women, and improve the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. This program seeks high school and college aged women who have demonstrated entrepreneurial initiative and interest in business.
Competitive applicants will show a record of community involvement and service, leadership, academic acumen, and strong entrepreneurial interest. Applicants will submit a business plan and, if selected, the JLR will provide the young woman with a booth at SPREE! for five days of intense hands on retail sales.
We are very excited to introduce our 2014 SPREE! young entrepreneurs, sisters Alex and Sophie Eubanks, the founders of the PinkyGirl online monograming boutique.
A senior and a sophomore at Saint Mary’s School in Raleigh, Alex and Sophie received their first monograming machine as a Valentine’s Day gift from their parents in February 2013. The business-minded duo quickly decided to turn their initial-designing fun into much more. Taking their business to social media the girls spurred interest from shoppers of all ages. From middle and high school students to moms seeking personalized accessories, the PinkyGirl saw orders flying out the door.
Today, only 20 months after beginning their business, these motivated high school students, have turned the PinkyGirl into an international company shipping orders to 40 states and four foreign countries. They’ve amassed a significant following on social media and use their Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts to help promote a positive platform for their female audience to converse.
“We really want to be a positive influence on other girls our age,” said Alex. “We want to show them that if you have a dream, then follow it. You can be successful as a young woman in business.”
Through the success of the PinkyGirl, the Eubanks have donated $1,500 to Susan G. Komen NC Triangle to the Coast and continue to raise awareness for breast cancer research.
