Volunteer Opportunities for Makeup Hours:

 JLR Touch A Truck | May 14

At JLR’s inaugural Touch A Truck event, children of all ages will get an “All Aboard!” to investigate vehicles they see out on the road. From big rigs to emergency vehicles, children can look, see, touch and ask questions. We know that unrestricted play is essential for healthy cognitive development in children. At Touch a Truck, children have the chance to explore vehicles of their choice, becoming immersed in the pretend world, experimenting and investigating large vehicles and their operators. The event will also include games and entertainment.

Touch A Truck will be held May 14 in the CCL parking lot at 711 Hillsborough Street with the following volunteer opportunities:

9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.– set up and kick off

11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. – manning the event and clean up
Shifts will include selling tickets, helping with general directions and instruction, truck hospitality (checking on our truck operators) and simple face painting for children.   Wear comfortable clothing & JLR aprons will be provided.  To sign up for a shift, please email Katie Schottmiller kdschottmiller@hotmail.com

WAKE Up and Read – Volunteers Needed

Thousands of books have been donated, sorted, and boxed. Now it’s time to get those thousands of books into the hands of kids!

April 22 – June 9 volunteers are needed to assist with setting up the WAKE Up and Read Book Fair in 10 elementary schools and with assisting children as they select books.  What a joyous time it is for children as they choose books to take home and for adults who experience the look on their faces as they realize these are THEIR books to keep.

Volunteers are needed for various time slots.  Please click on the link above to see the specific dates and times.  Thank you for helping with this very important work. Your time and efforts will help put books directly into the hands of children. For more information and to sign up, click here.
